"The Lego Batman Movie" | MOVIE REVIEW

Okay, I'm four cans into my latest Red Bull binge at the time of writing this review and I'm officially past the halfway mark to completing the reviews for all the movies I saw in February. Let's do this.

The Lego Batman Movie is a spin-off the surprisingly good Lego Movie and stars Will Arnett as the titular caped crusader but, in many ways, he isn't really the version of Batman that we've all come to know and love. This Batman is snarky, incredibly vain, and is pretty much an a-hole, but a loveable a-hole, and that completely works for this movie.

There really is a lot to like about this movie, as well. First of all, it really does go all-out with the jokes and holds quite literally nothing (with respect to the world and lore behind Batman as a character, etc.) sacred. The comedy was well-timed, well-written, and very well-delivered, and, ultimately, it is in the comedy where most of the movie's strengths lie.

Especially the "Suicide Squad" jokes. ESPECIALLY the "Suicide Squad" jokes.

Secondly, the voice acting was great and blended seamlessly with the way certain characters were portrayed. Ralph Fiennes plays Alfred, who, in this movie, has a really good blend of deadpan humor and jokes that are just straight-up silly (while still showing very little emotion), and I thought he was great. Zach Galifianakis and Michael Cera were great as the Joker and Robin, respectively, and were both incredibly hilarious.

For all we know, this unsuspecting son of a gun may actually be a superhero's sidekick.

For a movie as silly as this, you'd expect them to kinda just forget to develop the characters for the sake of having more jokes, but they don't; there's actually quite a lot of character development in this movie. The bond between Batman and Robin and their transition from the latter being kinda unwanted around the house to the two of them being actual friends/family was nice to see and played to a tee.

And, not to forget, the action was amazing, too. The animation was crisp and was smooth for what they were trying to go for, and the way the action was going down complimented the animation style. Overall, I really can't imagine how the animation and the movements could've been improved, and thay's saying something.

The only negative I can really point out about this movie is that, since the jokes never slow down, you, as viewers, will miss some jokes only because you're busy laughing at the previous one. Other than that, there really is nothing wrong here.

Overall, the Lego Batman Movie has a lot of great action, great humor (meta humor, especially), and really is a great time. In my book, I'd give it a solid Vader thumbs-up.

If your kids ever wanted to watch Deadpool solely for the humor, show them this instead. They'll love you for it; trust me.
